EXPO 2015 in Milan breaks all records

141 participating countries and an unprecedented number of pavilions. The number of applications for participation is already more than expected. A hundred thousand Italians sent a resume.

List of participants in the global exhibition EXPO-2015, dedicated to the topic "Feed the planet. Energy for life.", already clogged to the eyeballs. And applications continue to come. And at the same time, about 100 thousand resumes of candidates from all over Italy were sent to the official website of the exhibition www.expo2015.org in the section "Work with Us".

Inspector Giuseppe Sala is pleased with the situation: "We have exceeded all expectations. Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina have just joined the 139 countries that have already signed up, and they plan to submit applications from the USA and Ireland in the near future." 60 pavilions will be organized at the exhibition, this is an absolute record for the entire duration of the EXPO. Even in Shanghai in 2010, only 42 pavilions were installed: "Of course, we tried to achieve this figure, but the general interest is obvious: both the event itself and the topic that we have chosen."

A large number of Asian stands

- The event also reflects the new socio-political geography of the world. So Sala notes that "there will be more Asian stands in Milan than in Shanghai. A clear sign that many of them have significantly strengthened their positions over the past five years." Also, several unexpected applications were received from Africa: "Angola, for example, requested an area directly for itself. Obviously, this nation is developing at a rapid pace." The largest areas were reserved by the countries of the Persian Gulf, for which the footage does not matter, but it is important to show yourself to the world in the best light: it is no coincidence that the Arab Emirates turned to the famous architect Norman Foster to develop a project for their stand.

Call Flurry

- Processing of applications began according to plan - December 16 - and in February the first teams of participating countries should arrive to begin to build their stands. However, a flurry of applications put the site technicians responsible for organizing the space and providing everyone with the required footage, in a difficult situation. Of course, according to the rules of the EXPO, places are provided in accordance with the application deadlines: whoever signed up before will receive the best place. Nevertheless, it has already been announced that the Art and Food pavilion, one of the five thematic sections presented on the site, will be divided into three parts. “As to give the idea of an exhibition of greater breadth,” comments Giuseppe Sala, “so with the aim of providing a place for everyone.”

Wrong side

“Our first task,” the inspector concludes, “is to do everything possible to meet the deadline.” And he continues: “We have less than 500 days left, this is a very short period in which much needs to be done. Remember the date of March 1, 2015, when the grand opening of the event is planned, after which 184 eventful days will follow.”
