Italian court returns daughter to nun

The Italian nun, who at the age of 44 gave birth to a child after she was raped by a priest, finally decided to regain the baby. Immediately after giving birth, the woman refused to recognize her own daughter.

The ex-sister explained her decision by the fact that at that time she simply did not want to leave the congregation "Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth"which she has been in since 1996. However, the order did not allow the sinner to remain in the monastery, and she, in turn, decided to return her child.

The baby by that time was already adopted by an unknown Italian couple, and the local court refused the failed mother in her request to return her daughter, explaining that she simply does not have any rights to her. Moreover, the judges ruled that the nun could not get the baby, since she recognized him only three years after birth. However, the desperate woman could not come to terms with the decision of the court, and therefore filed an appeal with the Italian Supreme Court, insisting on receiving custody of the child left to her.

“The nun’s act, due to the difficult situation in which she found herself, cannot cause her to deny her parental rights,” the High Court of Italy ruled.

The woman’s lawyer, Giovanni Giardini, told reporters that the trial was quite complicated, despite the fact that it had a positive outcome for his client. Now, according to Giardini, the woman will finally be able to meet her daughter, whom she has never seen.

“The birth of her child became for the nun both birth and death: grief over her old life and her celebration of her new status - mother.”

The nun, whose name is still not disclosed, entered the order after she graduated from a theological seminary in Rome. She claims to have been raped by a priest in Pesaro, who lives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in 2010. However, the victim of violence still refuses to give the name of the father of his child.

Not so long ago, the Italian media told a similar story. Last month, a young nun from a small Italian town gave birth to a baby and named him in honor of the current head of the Catholic Church, Francis.

However, the piquancy of this story lies in the fact that the young mother and did not suspect about her pregnancyuntil she began to give birth.

But even then, the sister was sure that she had only renal colic. Nevertheless, a few hours after the amazed doctors explained to the patient what was the matter, a strong baby was born. Later it turned out that the servant of the monastery had previously traveled to her historic homeland, Salvador, from where, most likely, she returned in an interesting position. In the meantime, the young mother is waiting for the decision of the Holy See regarding her future fate and collects things to move from the monastery, unless the most lazy Italian tells her story.
